Going Private

We have decided to make our blog private. An incident happened to another adoptive family and it freaked me out! I am happy they are safe.

We have had a few ups and downs on our blog and it made me realize that our blog lost its purpose. It is meant for the miracle of adoption, period. We wanted to share with you Sophia's miraculous adjustment and how amazing she is thriving with love and guidance. We wanted to let prospective adoptive parents know that there are so many beautiful and healthy children waiting for them in Ukraine. I wanted to be their voice.

I don't want to put Sophia or my boys in danger. Some anonymous comments in the past really hurt and I just can't do that to Sophia...she has come too long of a way to be judged. She has overcome starvation, abuse, neglect, loneliness and so much more. I will continue my blog and invite those who truly are interested in Living life with Sophia and everything else going on in our household.

If you would like to be invited to read my blog, leave me your name and email and I will add you. To all our family and friends just leave me your name (I know your emails)

My Family is too precious to me and for this I must make this decision.
Our blog will go private in a few days.

Thanks for understanding.

Mother Nature Stop Confusing Sophia

Sophia's conversation today I quote:

"What in the World"!! Raining and Sunshine ! "What in the World"

This was during her experience with her very first sun shower.

I cannot believe that she realized that Mother Nature was working some magic and that it was just not right that the sun was shining the same time it was raining. This girl is one smart cookie

A Ballerina in a Hula Skirt

Future Ballerina for sure! She is up on those toes. She loved playing"dress up" today.

I am reading a great book "The Connected Child" I will post my opinion when I finish it.
Any Adoptive Parents read this book? Let me know what you thought of it.

Mini Update

Hi Quick Update
Been very busy but wanted to let you know a few things about our darling Sophia

SHE WENT TO SLEEP WITHOUT SOCKS FOR THE FIRST TIME!!! Wahoooo!
When I was putting on her socks she said " no it's okay....no socks" I was shocked. I will let you know if tonight will be a repeat performance.

Secondly, Sophia got bit by something smack dab in the middle of her chest. Poor thing looks like she has a breast. Been to the doctor she is on antibiotics (very red looks infected) and on Benadryl for the swelling and itching. Doc says in looks like a spider bite but we won't tell Sophia.

I will post again very soon.

The Truth Please

Hi Everyone! First of all I must comment on Michelle's comment in my last post. Thank you so much for loving Sophia. You are amazing and I am sure you feel the Love back. Sophia adores all of you. Thank you again.

We have been having some wicked weather here in Ontario. Storms never bothered Sophia last spring and summer but this year is another story. She isn't a fan of thunder. She has become quite petrified. We are trying to get her to watch the storm and have some fun. I think we have a little work ahead of us though.

We are having a little trouble with getting the truth out of Sophia. A simple yes or no is very difficult. We do know that Sophia has received some physical abuse in the orphanage and she hasn't forgot that yet. I think that is why she has a hard time admitting to things. It is the consequences that she fears. We need to help her overcome this so she will be an honest human being. We have taught our kids to tell the truth and nothing but the truth. (which I am sure 100% hasn't always been followed) For example, Sophia touched the dryer. We heard the door close loud and clear. I asked her very calmly "Sophia did you touch the dryer" She starts to cry and say sorry....again I ask "Sophia did you touch the dryer" this is what I got "ummm, ummmm, ummmmm, ummmm, ummmmm" Sophia I will ask you one more time, did you touch the dryer? yes or no" still crying with hands behind her back " ummmm, ummmmm" she would NOT admit to it. I told her that I wouldn't hit her hands and I actually held them, caressing them while I was trying to get her to admit to it. No way. I put her in the time-out chair. She wasn't happy. I told her all she had to do is admit to touching the dryer. Finally, after 15 minutes (I kid you not) she admitted to it. I explained to her that it was dangerous for her to touch the washer/dryer and that she needs to tell the truth all the time. She knows the story of Pinocchio and when she doesn't tell the truth she puts her hands over her nose so we can't see her nose growing.

Any Advice??? Those darn Care-givers!!

This behaviour is confirmation to us that Sophia is still traumatized and still is in the process of healing. Parenting bio kids is so different from parenting post institutionalized children! I am going to the bookstore tonight to purchase a few more books!

The picture above is Sophia practicing her letters with her brother. Apparently it his new teaching technique....ummmm.

Feels like Summer

Sophia has been enjoying the outdoors. It is finally feeling like summer It has been a long winter Sophia still loves the trampoline, She doens't say Jumpy Jumpy she nows says trampoline!
